Concrete Driveway & Patio
Complete Exterior Concrete Work

About This Project
This Saddle Ridge home had an aging asphalt driveway with significant cracking and heaving from Calgary's freeze-thaw cycles. The homeowners wanted a complete upgrade with a matching patio for backyard entertaining.
We removed the old asphalt driveway and deteriorated sidewalk, then prepared a proper base with compacted gravel for drainage. The new driveway features beautiful exposed aggregate concrete that complements the home's exterior. Control joints were strategically placed to minimize visible cracking.
The backyard patio uses stamped concrete with a natural stone pattern and warm brown coloring that coordinates with the house's brick accents. Proper grading ensures water drains away from the foundation, and we installed a subtle drainage channel along the patio edge.
All concrete was poured with Calgary's climate in mind - proper air entrainment for freeze-thaw resistance and appropriate curing techniques for durability.
Challenges & Solutions
Challenges
- • Old asphalt removal generated significant debris
- • Needed to maintain vehicle access during project
- • Weather window was tight for proper concrete curing
Solutions
- • Arranged multiple debris hauls to keep site clean and safe
- • Phased work to pour driveway in sections, maintaining partial access
- • Monitored weather closely and used curing blankets to protect fresh concrete
Results
- • 850 sq ft of new concrete installed
- • Proper drainage eliminated previous pooling issues
- • Exposed aggregate driveway adds significant curb appeal
"The exposed aggregate driveway looks fantastic - neighbors have commented on it multiple times. The stamped patio in the back is perfect for BBQs. Professional work from start to finish."— David H.
